Published Work
| Here is art work that I have created for publication. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy making art for a specific purpose other than solely to amuse myself, but I do! Part of the fun of it is having guidelines to work within -- it creates a challenge and allows me to sometimes work outside my normal comfort zone. Each and every time, I learn something new. (Which really is the whole point, isn't it?) |

The Art of Fabric Books: Innovative Ways to Use Fabric in Scrapbooks, Altered Books & More In January of 2004, I was invited by Jan Smiley to participate in a book she was working on for C&T Publishing. Having been a quilter for over 12 years, I am quite familiar with that publishing company and was very excited to be asked. The book is based on textile related altered art. You can see some of the artwork I created for the book below! |
| Every Family Has One is about all the different types of people you find in every family. There is the adventurer, the clown, the rebel, the hero and the diva. I thought it would be a fun concept to work with. I married paper with fabric and this was the result. | ![]() |
| 3 Ring Circus is a a flip book with blank pages for journalling or taking notes. The picture on the cover was made by transferring a vintage photo with added text onto fabric. This is a method I really like using. It's easy and the results are great! |
| Time is a fabric and paper tag book. I had a this wonderful piece of fabric that had vintage time pieces and had yet to use it. When this project came up, it seemed perfect. Each page has some of the clocks on it and is embellished with various watchmaker's parts. The text is from Jim Croce's song "Time in a Bottle" which is a song I loved as a kid. | ![]() |

My Angel of Lost Buttons daytimer was right for this project, since it had lots of sewing related images. |
| I also sent in this daytimer since it had a quilting quote on it. It reads: "Of all the things a woman's hands have made, the quilt so lightly thrown across her bed-the quilt that keeps her loved ones warm is woven of her dreams and love and thread." I just love this quote. | ![]() |

Altered Board Books Basics & Beyond: For Creative Scrapbooks, Altered Books and Artful Journals Happily, Jan also invited me to be a part of her second altered art book, this one based on altering board books. This book launched C& T Publishing's new paper crafts line. (Coincidentally, she decided to make an accordion fields note book of her own to grace the cover.) Below are the books I created and submitted for her second publication. |

I took an accordion board book and I transformed into a Field Notes book. I love that it has a flap on the cover for holding it closed . |

I decided to make this standard sized book into a book about the USA, since that's where Jan is from and I have travelled much of the United States. |

I chose this board book because it was long and skinny and I wanted to work with a variety of shapes and sizes. I created a Book of ME, which has places to record things I like (my favourite things) on the pages. Just for fun! |
| Wisdom for the Journey was a baby's board book with a blue rubber handle. I covered it by wrapping fibres round and round really tightly. It's filled with images of children and quotes about childhood. I love that it looks like a little purse. | ![]() |

I created this button necklace with vintage buttons from my stash to showcase the charms I received from the Just Simply Charming Charm swap that I participated in. |
