CollageGallery

I adore collage work. The most satisfying part of it is taking disparet elements and colours and blending them together to create an harmonious piece.

I made this collage for Annemarie's birthday. I used Claudine Hellmuth's painting and peeling paper technique for the background. I really enjoyed making this one and it was hard to part with it.
I made this for my friend Celine as a housewarming/welcome to Canada gift. She moved to Quebec from France for a year and I wanted her to feel welcome in her new home. I chose to use the motto of Quebec which means "I will Remember". It speaks to holding on to where you came from while embracing where you are now. I thought that was really appropriate for the occasion. The image I used is from her line of collage sheets so it's just that much more personal.
I knew when I bought these file folders that I wanted to make an evidence file out of them. It just seemed like the perfect way to alter them. I added a toe tag and a morticians reciept. I also had an official "deceased" stamp which I had bought some time ago but had yet to use that fit perfectly with this project. My friend Deb Trotter loved it so much I sent it to her.
The Reimer Sisters were my grandfather's aunts. He always smiled when he talked about them
Summer 1946. My grandfather at the cottage. He was never so happy as when he was fishing, hunting or flying his plane. The cording and fishing doo-dad I rescued from his workshop. It seems so odd to see him smoking-he quit long before I was born so I never saw him with a cigarette.
First House is the only one of the three that is not created with an image from my photo album.
My friend Deb Trotter posted the funniest thing I have ever read on her blog about husbands just not getting their artist wives' work. After reading it, we decided to swap work and I couldn't resist making this collage for her. I call it "It's a Girl Thing". It says "Tho' he loved her, Edward just didn't understand Eileen." Eileen's hat says "artiste" on it. Deb got a real kick out of it and it amuses me no end to know she laughed when she saw it.
A birthday collage for a friend. I love the colours!
I made some collaged post cards as samples for a class I am teaching. I like this one with the crow on it and the Middle East imagery and text.
I have been collecting bits from envelopes friends send me things in. Sometimes they stamp them to make them pretty and I can't bear to throw them out. I also always save the postage stamps on anything that comes into the house. I love the images on them! This is postcard number one in a new series I am calling Flotsam & Jetsam of Everyday Life.

This is number 2 in the Flotsam & Jetsam* Of Everyday Life series. I will add to the series as more bits find their way to me! (If you are mailing me anything, please decorate the envelope and who knows-maybe some of your mail art will find it's way into my series!)

* In Maritime law, flotsam applies to wreckage or cargo left floating on the sea after a shipwreck. Jetsam applies to cargo or equipment thrown overboard from a ship in distress and either sunk or washed ashore. The common phrase flotsam and jetsam is now used loosely to describe any objects found floating or washed ashore.

My first attempt at beeswax collage. I used a small stretched canvas as the base. It was pretty easy to do, but it was a bit sticky afterwards. I love the smell of it though!
Merci Beaucoup mixed media collage on stretched canvas, made just for fun.
Handle With Care mixed media collage on cavas board.
This is one of four sections on a "canvass" I painted and collaged in Lynn Perrella's class at Artfest 2006. The image I used is my grandmother and her aunt. (The teeny baby is my grandmother.)
This is my first solo attempt at using techniques I learned in DJ Pettit's Artfolio class at Artfiberfest 2006. DJ is an excellent teacher- I managed to replicate what I learned in class without any problems. "The House of Love" and is part of a year long RR project with artist friends.
"Live Fish" from a page I did in a journal RR. I loved playing with the layers of paint! What you can't really see is the silver paint I used that looks like fish scales.
A small "danglie" I made for a Dias De Los Muertos swap. It's 2 1/2 inches square.
Scolarly Mona, a page for a journal RR I am in. The eggs and crow are made from stamps from Green Pepper Press. Mona's glasses are a stamp from Tracy Roos, coated in German Glass Glitter from Papier Valise.
Just playing around with collage. The eggs and nest are from a collage image sheet from Paper whimsy. I loved playing with my water soluble oil pastels on this one. I am hopelessly addicted!
I created this piece as part of a project about crayons. It was a bit of a trial because the colour I chose (Scarlet) was not the colour I thought it should be. I had already created the work when my crayon arrived in the mail and I discovered that Crayola had a different idea about scarlet than I did. The colour of my work was so different from the actual crayon, than I had to start from scratch. As it turned out, I liked the second piece better than the first, so all's well that ends well!
"Ode to Eight: Crazy 8's " an 8x8 collage on canvas that I created for the Artfest 2007 challenge. Believe me, it was challenging to work on such a big canvass. I prefer to work small. Unfortunately, the colours just don't translate here-it's alot more intense and has alot more depth than what appears here.
I made this collaged journal page as a submission for a book. It didn't end up in the book, but I like it anyway.
This altered postcard was created from a promotional post card from Linda Woods and Karen Dinino for their new book Journal Revolution.
"A Good Egg" made just to try out some new paint I bought.
"The Guardians", a collage for a thank you card for Barbara at my local library.
"Little Muse" for Kristin Steiner's studio.
This is my cover for a music cd project hosted by Sarah Fishburn.
