Altered Pendants

Bee gave out special Artfest dog tags at Artfest 2006 with the idea that those that received them would take them home, alter them and bring them back to Artfest 2007 to show. This is what I did with mine.
I made these pendants from some scraps I had on hand. The button pendant is a scrap from my quilting (with reproduction vintage fabrics) and the crow is from a postage stamps I received on a piece of mail. I love making something out of little bits of nothing.
A cowboy themed pendant I made for my friend Deb Trotter for Xmas. A couple snippets of Cosmo Cricket papers and a little ingenuity et voila!
I made this pendant using a vintage brass ashtray. It was a drawer in a box but I removed the box part. It says "Nest Egg" and the image is of a young family standing in front of what has to be their first home. I really like how this came out.
I decided to make this pendant for my friend Janice because she loves eggs too! Hers says "Fly Away Home" because like me, she is a "transplant" from another province.
I got this crystal from Urban Source and thought it would make a cool necklace. It came from an old chandelier. I glued the image of a girl in a princess outfit to the raised side and added the word strength. I have enjoyed wearing it so far and may make some more!
Necklaces made from antique optometrist's lenses.

Copper Booklace

A friend took a copper booklace class at Artwerx. She made her booklace in honour of her father and I fell in love with the idea of making one to honour my Gramps. Here are the results.

The cover. I had this cool paper clip so I added it on and though you can't see it in this picture, there is a small copper hand charm dangling from it. I got the chain for my booklace from Papier Valise and aged it with liver of sulphur. It came out perfectly aged.
This is my Gramps (he is the smaller one) and his older brother. He's only about 3 here, I think. The pages are mica which made this a real challenge to photograph without seeing the flash.
The images you see towards the top are the back sides of the page that comes before. My Gramps was German and Russian so I added some German religious text. The photo is of him in the Airforce during the war. He served as Homeguard.
The quote on the back of the airforce photo is "We stand on guard for thee." which is part of the Canadian anthem. The photo is Gramps on his wedding day. The text is from a dictionary and says "Kenneth: Gaelic for handsome".
The date is my grandparent's wedding day. The photo is my Gramps returning home with a deer he hunted across the hood of his car. While I am not a fan of hunting, he hunted for food, not for sport.
A piece of vintage text which reminded me of his handwriting. He always formed his T's like that. The photo was taken at the lake, a place he loved.
The top photo is Gramps building his cabin. The bottom one is of him in his Shrine outfit with a glockenspiel. It's kind of funny that that's the instrument he's pictured with since he played a number of them.
The photo is of Gramps' presidential fez. He was a founding member of the Khartum Shrine. The quote is one that is particularly meaningful to me after he died.
The text is the date of his birth and death.
The back cover. It reads "Beloved & Missed".
See? I told you there was a little hand on that paperclip. My Gramps was a carpenter and worked his whole life with his hands.

Bracelets

I took Linda & Opie O'Brien's "Tintastics: the Whole 9 Yards" class at Artfest 2006 and this is the bracelet I made. The metal charms are made from recycled cookie tins and some pieces from my Gramps' measuring tapes. I also added some charms and game pieces.
I had the opportunity to take a wire work class with Debbie Carruba. It was a whole day class. The morning was spent learning wire working techniques and in the afternoon we made silver bracelets. This is mine and I am so pleased with how it turned out. I love working with wire!!

Punch Needle Pendants

A punch needle design I drew and turn into a pendant using an ashtray drawer and ribbon from Papier Valise.
A second punch needle design in a tiny flip top frame measuring 3/4 x 1 inch.

Postal Pendants

I was just playing around and created these postal pendants using cancelled and vintage postage stamps. I love this faux metal technique!

(It's a bit difficult to photograph these nicely because of the shiney finish. The photos don't even begin to do them justice!)

Another class samples using teeny rhinestones.
Using a flower shaped rhinestone embellishment.
Rhinestones, star and bead embellishments.

Charms

My charm for the Just Simply Charming swap. We were supposed to make charms that reflect our art and since I always use buttons and other sewing ephemera in my art, I decided to create charms from a vintage articulated ruler.
Rather than make a bracelet, I decided to create a necklace from the charms I received from the swap. I created the necklace from vintage buttons.
